I find it disheartening that so many people are jumping onto the paleo diet bandwagon in hopes of a quick fix to their weight problems. While I’m glad people are giving the paleo a shot, what really bugs me is that these people are thinking short term, and not looking at the whole picture.

The paleo diet is a complete lifestyle change. It isn’t about losing weight, although that is a fantastic side effect the diet has. People need to start looking at the paleo diet as a way to become healthy and maintain that health. While getting your body to a normal weight is a great way to START being healthy, it isn’t neccessarily the primary goal.

The goal of the paleo is to make sure our body is healthy through and through. The paleo wants to get our internal organs back to working the way they were designed to work. Today’s processed foods create all kinds of internal issues forcing our organs to do things they simply were not designed to do.

For instance, some additives force our liver to do some of the kidneys work, which in turn makes the liver work less efficiently and causes major health issues including heart disease. Our bodies’ organs must work in unision to achieve the perfect balance of health. When one organ isn’t working right, the other organs begin to not function properly. The the paleo diet wants us to eat the foods we were designed to eat. This brings our bodies back into harmony. When the body is in harmony, health is the result.

Sure, losing weight does happen on the paleo. But there is so much more to the eating lifestyle than just that. There are no quick fixes to the weight problem that seems to plague modern man. But to treat a wholistic way of eating as a gimmick to lose weight? That’s just not fair. It just saddens me that so many people assume that dieting is just about losing weight.
